The Onion is known for lampooning the high and mighty, whether they be government leaders, actors or Corporate America, but after the online mag took a shot at Procter & Gamble with a spoof of the company's online marketing campaign, P&G hit back with a spoof of its own. As P&G noted in a press release:

The Onion had some fun with Tide this week … Now it's our turn. Watch the cool new viral Tide Detergent video with cute, funny talking animals, an indie rock song, and an 80s-inspired rock star.

“We—and I am sure many similar brands—could relate to the article, navigating the world of social media with a brand that doesn't have an obvious fit into the landscape,” said Sarah Pasquinucci, APR, Procter & Gamble External Relations NA Fabric Care. “Although we are always learning, we like to feel that we have done a pretty good job, with multiple Twitter trending topics and nearly 3 million Facebook fans.

“We knew quickly that we wanted to respond,” added Pasquinucci. “We thought we would join in the fun and play the game a bit. And why not? We can laugh at ourselves.”
